The hillsides in Kabul are occupied by informal settlers. Kabul's city center can be seen between the two hill sides. This picture (180o view - with a black divider in the middle) shows informal settlements on what it known as the TV or ATN Hill, the hill named after Afghan Television (the hill on the left). The Afghan name is Kohi Asamayi. To the right of the black divider, you can see the ancient city wall built some 1,400 years ago on a hill called Kohi Sher Dar Waza. A path along the city wall connects districts 1 and 7 of Kabul with district 8. If you scroll to the right, you will see a house just left of the black divider (at the bottom). The owners of the house have been creative using artillery shells to support the roof, a common building technique in the Pansjir valley as well.
